Family Fun

Learning as a family is great fun for everyone. The Zoo provides fun and learning all mixed into one.

Classes meet in the Cargill Learning Center unless otherwise noted. Space is limited; therefore pre-registration is required. Please contact Cargill Learning Center to reserve your place. Classes take place rain or shine.

Activities

Fun for the whole family...we have activites for all ages. Bring your family to the Zoo — check out the adventure backpacks, then play and learn together or check out a Zoo Trunk and continue the fun and learning at home.

Learning Adventures

Plan an adventure to the Zoo with the whole family! We even have programs on weekday evenings and weekend days.

Classes take place rain or shine. Please remember, for everyone's safety and enjoyment all class participants must meet age requirements - no older or younger siblings allowed, including infants.

New! Creature Feature

Come experience this exciting new adventure at the Zoo! We will be showing the feature-length presentation of "A Bug's Life" in our Cargill Learning Center. Following the movie presentation, there will be a short presentation on bugs and other insects. Cost is $5 for members, $6 for nonmembers.

Zooventures

The Zoo is such a great place for families to explore! Share these new tour experiences with your wives, husbands, kids or grandkids! These programs are 90 minutes long. The fee of $17 for members / $19 for nonmembers covers up to five family members ages 5 and above. Additional people are $8 each. Program times vary.

Learn about all sorts of animal-related topics in this new, FREE program!  All ages are welcome and no advance registration is required.

Roots and Shoots Service Learning Safaris

Learn to give back while having hands-on fun at the Zoo! Parents and children will be working together during class, and each class will also get you started on a family service project to do at home. All classes run from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The fee of $17 for members / $19 for nonmembers covers up to five family members. Any member of the family old enough to pay and participate is welcome to attend. Each additional child is $3 and each individual adult is $8. Saturday classes are suitable for teachers, scout leaders, or other interested adults.

    What does make a fine bird? Let’s find out. We’ll look at how they eat and examine eggs and feathers. Then we’ll visit some of the most interesting examples in the Zoo.

    By learning how plants work, people have made plants bloom earlier, grow bigger, sprout sooner, and reproduce more. Learn some of these methods in this hands-on class, and take home plant starts for your spring growing.

    Lanterns, stoves, hot dog cookers! Does the economy have you vacationing at home this summer? Make your own simple camping and cooking gear from recycled materials. Get a list of items to bring when you register. Warning: sharp tools. Close adult supervision will be required.

Stroller Safari

These 90-minute programs for adult + stroller-age child include stretch period, power walk, exhibit tour, and social time. The fee of $10 for members / $12 for nonmembers covers one adult and child/children in stroller. Sign up for 3 programs for just $25. Programs begin at 9:30 a.m.
