Kaiser’s spotted newt

Amphibians & Reptiles·Amphibian

Also referred to as the Luristan Newt, this critically endangered salamander is found only in two spring-fed streams in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. To avoid the heat of the desert, it spends most of the year underground, surfacing to breed and lay eggs. If its streams are dammed, this species could disappear.
