A wedding at the Sedgwick County Zoo is a chance for couples to live out their wildest dreams and create an unforgettable experience for their guest. Whether it is an intimate gathering or grand affair, Sedgwick County Zoo is ready to help you celebrate in style.

The Venues


Tropics
With an average temperature of 70 degrees year-round the Tropics is the ideal spot for a small informal, yet intimate wedding party up to 20 people. Reserve the Tropics exclusively for one hour for your wedding. The sounds of the rainforest jungle will provide the perfect ambience while you exchange wedding vows. After the ceremony, capture your special day with photographs taken near the waterfall; on the bridge or next to fabulous foliage that fills the exhibit.

Poet Gazebo
This beautiful location is perfect for a small intimate wedding. The rock structure overlooks a peaceful pond. This venue includes 60 black folding chairs and up to 5 serving tables. Dressing area is available for wedding party.
Rental for 3 hours $1200


Cargill Learning Center and Patio

Choose an indoor or outdoor wedding with this venue. The patio is an exceptional location for an outdoor wedding or reception area. The patio has a beautiful curved rock wall, which makes a perfect backdrop for a wedding setting. Add a DJ or a small band and have an impressive reception on the patio. Up to 120 guests can be accommodated.

The rotunda area features beautiful terrazzo flooring with 22-foot ceilings and natural lighting. The area is perfect for an indoor ceremony of 80-100 people in attendance or for a dance. As a reception area, the rotunda can accommodate up to 120 people.

A spacious room near the rotunda is a wonderful area for a reception. Round table seating for 120 guests with white linens is included in the rental of the Cargill Learning Center and Patio. Turtle and fish bring the Zoo feeling to your reception. After hours security is included.

Nganda Village
This secluded location is perfect for a wedding and reception area. Rental includes seating for 150 people for wedding service, 20 tables and additional 150 chairs for reception, tram service, location for DJ and playground.

The Downing Gorilla Forest
This venue is a wild place for an evening wedding, reception or rehearsal dinner. The themed indoor décor needs no additional decorations. This area also features an outdoor patio, great for a small band or bar service. Climate controlled indoor tent room provides nearly 360 degrees of outdoor gorilla viewing. The year round indoor gorilla viewing provides close viewing of the gorillas. Rental includes round tables with white linens and chairs for up to 80 people, tram service, lighted parking lot, security and service gate access.

Pavilion
The open-air pavilion and adjoining field provides the perfect setting for a large wedding and reception. The pavilion and deck provides ample room for a band or DJ, bar service or additional seating. Rental includes up to 50 – 8 foot rectangular tables and 450 chairs, all day access to the pavilion for set up, storage area for supplies, access to ice machine and 50 cubic square feet of refrigerated storage. Security staff is also included along with behind the scenes service gate access for set up and break down. Room for Bride’s dressing area is available at the Cargill Learning Center. An electronic cart will be provided to transport the bride from the Cargill Learning Center.

Event Field and Tent
This event area is great for a ceremony area and/or a reception area outside. The Veldt Tent has a picnic style seating up to 200 guests and is included in the price of the rental. Dressing area is available for wedding party. After hours security if included in the rental. Overflow seating is available with a set up charge of $50.00. Please contact the Group Event Coordinator with any questions.

    All menus include: Tossed salad, bread, and unlimited water and choice of iced tea or lemonade during your reception, along with clear plastic table and drink ware service.
    Parties consisting of 400 plus guests, please contact Catherine Helms for menu options.

 

Wedding Guidelines

  • Wedding ceremonies, except for the Jungle location, must begin after 6:00 p.m. and conclude by 11:00 p.m. dependent on other activities within the Zoo.
  • Animal exhibits are not included with the exception of the indoor gorilla viewing for weddings or receptions taking place in The Downing Gorilla Forest. Arrangments can be made to have exhibits open.
  • Additional rented items for weddings must be contracted through an approved vendor.
  • All deliveries must be scheduled and a list of vendors provided to the event planner at the Sedgwick County Zoo.
  • No confetti-type decorations, glitter, balloons, fake flower petals, birdseed or rice may be used. Please check with event coordinator concerning decorations.
  • All facilities must be left in the same condition as prior to the event.
  • Clean up is to be completed immediately following the event. 
  • Nothing may be left overnight following your event including decorations, flowers, food, etc.
  • Smoking is not allowed inside buildings.
  • Special areas for smoking are designated.
  • All beer and wine must be purchased through Sedgwick County Zoo. Any other selections beyond 3.2 % will require a licensed and approved bartender.
  • Staff personnel will be provided to help with events on the weekends. Please ask for any help you need. 
  • Security is provided for all evening events and can also assist you with any problems.
  • We do not allow candles or open flames. We suggest using battery-operated candles.
  • Disorderly conduct will not be tolerated.
