  • Sedgwick County Zoo (Auditorium) – All Ages

  • Theme: Improving and Restoring Healthy Habitats is the primary focus of Party for the Planet®: Spring into Action in 2023. We will explore collective conservation action for families and individuals with a direct impact on the planet to support healthy habitats.

  • Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams (Wetland Room) – Grades K-2
  • 40 People Max (~25 student max due to activity)
  • 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30
  • All living organisms depend on water for survival. Through literature exploration they will brainstorm ways that fishers’ record data about their catch. Students will learn about the Japanese practice of “gyotaku” and how that art form also provides scientific information about biodiversity.

  • Nudge Compost (Ocean Room) – Grades 3-6
  • 40 People Max

  • Theme: The average American family contributes more than 500 pounds of compostable food scraps to landfills each year. In fact, food makes up the largest of all categories of material contributed to landfills today. Not only that, but food scraps in trash bags do not have access to the oxygen required to decompose properly and as a result produce methane which has been found to be up to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. These trends only appear to be increasing as estimates of food waste in the U.S. households have doubled from 17.5 million tons per year in 1990 to 35 million tons per year today. We can impact this problem today and turn these trends around!

  • Kansas Geological Survey (Prairie Room) – Grades 3-6
  • 40 People Max

  • Theme: Climate change impacts us all in Kansas, particularly with respect to safe and accessible drinking water. Join scientists from the Kansas Geological Survey to learn about where we get our water in Kansas, how access to this valuable resource drops as climate changes, and solutions we can each implement to ensure safe and accessible drinking water for all Kansans in the future!

Please fill out the information requested below. A member of the Education Department will email you to finalize your request. Field trip education programs must be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the preferred visit date. Not all programs are available at all times or on all days.

If you have not received a reply from Sedgwick County Zoo within two business days, please contact the Zoo’s Education Department, zooeducation@scz.org.

Registration for any program is not complete until you receive a confirmation letter with your program ticket at the top. Please bring the ticket(s) with you on the day of your visit along with the Field Trip Form.

* Please note that siblings are not allowed in programs but will be told at what time they may meet the group to continue their Sedgwick County Zoo adventure!

Learning adventures at the Zoo are great fun for all ages! To register, first find the one you’re looking for, and then visit its event page to register.

We are able to donate two complimentary individual guest passes once per calendar year to an organization, and there are 100 passes available for donation each month.

Requests should be made in writing at least two weeks in advance of the event date. Requests made within a shorter time frame, or after we have reached the month’s limit, may not be fulfilled.
