The zebu is a domesticated cattle breed native to South Asia, easily recognized by its distinctive hump over the shoulders, large dewlap, and drooping ears. Highly adaptable to hot climates, zebus are valued for their resistance to disease, and are used for milk, meat, and draught work in many tropical regions. In some places like India, zebu are considered sacred, and in other places like Madagascar, zebu outnumber people.
