Socorro Dove
While the Socorro Dove looks very similar to the Mourning Doves we have here in Kansas, they are native to the small island of Socorro, off the coast of western Mexico. Unfortunately, the species is now extinct in the wild due to predation from feral cats and habitat loss due to overgrazing by goats. The species only exists in captive breeding programs as conservation efforts are underway to reintroduce them to their native habitat.
