What better way to wind down for the evening than with a visit to the Zoo?
Pajama Party is a mixed-age education class that brings families together to learn about nature and conservation.
“Pajama Party is a class for families with young children, anywhere from zero to about seven or eight years old,” Early Education Specialist Patty Rice said. “It’s a time to come together, do some fun activities, learn things about animals and how they survive and how they thrive. And just have a good time.”
This 90-minute class is packed full of activity. When arriving, families have time to settle in before the first activity of the class. After looking at bio-facts and reading a story or doing a craft, Pajama Partiers travel into the Zoo to get a look at the animals.
“We’ll set out into the Zoo for about 30 minutes,” Rice said. “Or sometimes we bring in animal visitors at that time.”
After returning to the classroom, it’s of course time for a story and a snack. By the time the class ends, everyone is ready to go home and go to bed.
“This is a great time for the whole family. We get grandparents who come as well, which I love,” Rice said. “I think they feel like they all get something out of the class as well as enjoying seeing their child or grandchild learn and participate.”
Pajama Party is a class aimed at families, and there are always a variety of activities available, whether you’re six months old, six years, or 60.
This class is offered in the evening, which usually allows more families to come together. After a long day at work, spend some time learning with your family about the animals that call our earth home.
Each class focuses on the different topic, so no two Pajama Parties are exactly the same. When you attend Pajama Party, you aren’t just connecting with nature and wildlife, you’re connecting with your family.
“It’s important to have fun, safe activities that families can get out and do together in the community,” Rice said. “We also get them outside, which I think is important too. I love to show families that no matter the time of year, you can get outside and explore and have fun with your family.”
