Stingray Cove Reopening

March 13

Have you heard? Stingray Cove, SCZ’s interactive touch pool experience, is returning for its fifth and final year. After a successful five-year run, Stingray Cove opens March 13 and will remain open through the end of the season in October. This is your last chance to experience the rays up close, with FREE admission for Zoo members and guests. Visitors who want an even closer encounter can purchase an attraction ticket to hand-feed the rays. Don’t miss this final opportunity to experience the wonders of the ocean!

Sheep Shearing

March 14

It’s a party at the Children’s Farms! This Spring Break, stop by the American Barn and watch our annual sheep shearing event. Join the Farms keepers as they shear our Karakul and Navajo Churro sheep in preparation for Spring. Throughout the morning, watch and learn from staff as they handle the sheep and teach guests the importance of shearing.

With piles and piles of sheared wool, guests may wonder what the Zoo does with it all. Local knitters and spinners will be at the event to teach onlookers how this beautiful wool can be turned into sweaters, scarves, and so much more.

Feel the wool, learn how to hand spin and even try your hand at wool carding! It’s all happening at the Farms on March 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is free with Zoo admission.

St. Patrick’s Day

March 17

This St. Patrick’s Day, what better way to celebrate than by spotting green all over the Zoo! Visit the Amphibians and Reptiles building and see if you can spot some of our favorite green critters.

Green Mamba

This highly venomous snake is native to areas of Africa. A shy and elusive species, the Green Mamba uses its bright green scales to camouflage itself amongst tree branches to prey on birds, bats, and small animals.

Green Keel Bellied Lizard

Native to Africa, this lizard is known for its distinctive green coloring. With long tails that make up more than half their total length, Green Keel Bellied Lizards are adapted to life in the trees as well as the ground.

Magnificent Tree Frog

This Australian amphibian spends most of its time climbing on rocks and in caves, despite being a tree frog. Known for the large poison sac on its head, this feature acts as a defense mechanism to protect the Magnificent Tree Frog from predators.
