Poitou donkey
The Poitou has a large head and long ears covered in thick hair. The rest of the coat is thick and shaggy and varies in color from dark brown to black. The Poitou donkey was historically used solely for breeding mules. Most commonly, the Poitou donkey was bred with the Mulassiere horse to create Poitou mules.
